1. How is The Gathering Place different from other adult day centers? The Gathering Place design is specific to the needs of someone with memory loss. It provides a home-like, open setting with a discrete security system. 2. Does attending The Gathering Place help with memory loss? Although participating in a memory loss program will not improve someone's memory loss, stimulation and regular activity in a program can help maintain one's quality of life. 3. Will individuals with mild confusion or forgetfulness benefit from coming to The Gathering Place? Yes. Involvement in the Center's program can help keep people with memory loss at their highest level of functioning. By getting connected with the Center as early as possible, you can help maintain their quality of life and independence. 4. What are the fees to attend The Gathering Place? The Gathering Place can be less expensive than nursing home placement or assisted living facilities. Daily fees are based on a full day with lunch and two snacks. Other services are available as needed. A sliding fee scale is available for those who qualify. For specific fees based on your loved one's needs or to schedule a tour, please call (608) 245-3075 or contact us. 5. What are some typical activities at The Gathering Place? There are a wide variety of activities, and we publish them in a monthly calendar for participants and their families/caretakers. There are groups for art, music, devotions, baking and cooking, current events, sports, exercise, trivia, and other forms of entertainment. All the activities are designed to be failure free and are sensitive to the level of memory loss for each individual. 6. Does The Gathering Place ever plan activities out in the community? Yes. We have three annual outings and many different monthly outing opportunities for our program participants. 7. Who provides the care at The Gathering Place? Certified Nursing Assistants handle the medical aspects of day center programs. Therapeutic Recreation Specialists create, implement, and evaluate daily activities. Both are helped by day center assistants. Also, human service specialists help new participants get started in our program and facilitate "plan of care" meetings for them.
