Community Volunteers Choose “Best Time Ever” Contest Winner

Care Wisconsin recently recognized Stoughton middle school student Maddie Falk, 12, for a delightful poem “Good Night Sleep Tight” she wrote about her relationship with her three-year-old brother, Ethan, who has Down syndrome. To read Maddie’s poem, click here.

Maddie, a student at River Bluff Middle School in Stoughton, was awarded this year’s grand prize: a two-night stay at Hotel Rome in Wisconsin Dells and four passes to Mt. Olympus. The daughter of Nathan Falk and Stacie Ellingson-Falk, Maddie entered the annual contest along with other students in Rebecca Meyer’s classroom. 

Now in its 10th year, the annual “Best Time Ever” Art and Writing Contest for Middle Schoolers inspires students to capture a memorable “best time ever” shared with a beloved older adult or someone with a disability. More than 4,300 frail elders and adults with disabilities in ten southern Wisconsin counties are served by the organization’s long-term care and health care programs.

Care Wisconsin extends special thanks to contest sponsors American Family Insurance and Capital Newspapers’ Newspapers in Education literacy program, and to Mt. Olympus and Hotel Rome for their support. Nearly 20 community volunteers joined Care Wisconsin staff in the organization’s Madison office to help select the Top 100 entries from a total of more than 950 submissions.
