Privacy Reminder

Care Wisconsin and all of its providers are required by federal and state laws to protect the privacy of our members and only share information with others who have the legal right and the need to know. 

If you are not typically covered directly by the federal and state laws, you have a signed Business Associate Agreement with Care Wisconsin.  This agreement tells you how you can use and disclose our member information and describes your responsibilities to protect that information and report any improper use or disclosures to Care Wisconsin.

When you do discuss member information, services or care, please remember to choose a private place.  Avoid discussing members in such areas as public hallways, elevators, cafeterias, common areas with other clients/patients/residents, or other public places unless it is an emergency situation.  

In addition, please do not place a member’s name or other identifiable information such as date of birth or home address in emails (or documents attached to emails) unless the information is encrypted.

Concern for a member, friend or co-worker, or curiosity about an “interesting case" are not sufficient reasons to access or share member information.  Information that Care Wisconsin staff and providers hear, see and learn regarding our members is confidential and not to be shared with friends or family in a way in any way unless the person has the legal right and the need to know.
