The Gathering Place is the only day center in Dane County exclusively dedicated to older adults with Alzheimer's disease or other memory loss conditions.  When you visit the center for a tour, you will see that we've custom-designed everything with these older adults in mind - from the day's schedule, to the range of activities, the physical layout and the security features.  Our caring staff is specially-trained in ways to work sensitively and respectfully with participants attending The Gathering Place.

The Gathering Place is a bright and vibrant place where your loved one can actively and enjoyably spend the daytime. He or she will:

  • Meet and talk with friendly and interesting people
  • Enjoy a full day of activities
  • Receive a nutritious lunch and 2 snacks

Getting connected with The Gathering Place can help balance the life of your loved one ...

A plan of care is used to individually tailor activities and services to the current level of memory loss and related needs.  This plan of care is written with the help of the staff and family, and is reviewed often to evaluate the goals of the plan.  We also maintain a ratio of one staff person to every four participants, so we provide that extra time and attention so necessary for these older adults.

The activities are scheduled to fit the rhythms and behaviors of people with memory loss.  These are customized for "failure-free" participation and include:

  • Music
  • Art
  • Discussions
  • Exercise
  • Games
  • Hobbies
  • Baking
  • Adapted Sports

The activities help maintain a regular daytime routine and nighttime sleeping pattern to maintain your loved one's quality of life.

Nutritious lunches and ongoing health monitoring are also provided.  Trained health-care workers help participants remember medications; and they provide dignified support with feeding, toileting, hygiene, and mobility. Showers can also be arranged.

Getting connected with The Gathering Place also helps balance your own life...

Care Wisconsin stands by your commitment to your family to care for and help your loved one stay independent and live at home in the community for as long as possible.  You can feel good knowing he or she will receive expert care in a safe environment and will be involved with various activities designed to maintain quality of life.

While your loved one is being taken care of, you can take care of yourself. Enrolling your family member in The Gathering Place affords you time to run errands, go to work, fulfill other personal and family commitments, or to simply take a break.  Additionally, Care Wisconsin staff can teach you strategies for gaining your loved one's cooperation at home, and connect you with other resources designed for caregivers of adults with memory loss.
