August 19, 2009 Middle schoolers: Enter our "Best Time Ever" Contest!Care Wisconsin has just kicked off its 9th Annual “Best Time Ever” Art and Writing Contest. The contest spotlights positive experiences of middle school students with seniors or adults with disabilities, the two populations served through Care Wisconsin’s local health and long-term care programs. Sponsors of this year’s contest—American Family Insurance, Mt. Olympus and Hotel Rome—make it possible to publish a booklet of the Top 100 entries and provide prizes to entrants. Capital Newspapers’ Newspapers in Education literacy program also provides support. All entrants will receive a one-day pass to Mt. Olympus, Wisconsin Dells. The Top 100 entries, as chosen by community judges, will appear in the booklet. One grand prize winner will receive a two-night stay at Hotel Rome and one-day passes for four to Mt. Olympus. In the past, students have received recognition in the Top 100 booklet, local newspapers and even a live radio broadcast. Middle school students can enter the contest by submitting a short story, essay or poem (300 words or less) or artwork in any form—paintings, sculptures, drawings—about the best time they ever spent with someone over age 50 or an adult with physical or developmental disabilities. Deadline is October 23. The “Best Time Ever” Contest is an excellent opportunity to promote diversity through creativity and self-expression—and it grows more popular every year. As one teacher told us, “This is one writing project my students didn’t gripe about and I didn’t have to hear the age-old complaint, ‘I don’t have anything to write about.’” Entries should be accompanied by our "Best Time Ever" Contest Entry Form. 8th Annual "Best Time Ever" Booklet
