Who is eligible for Care Wisconsin transportation service? Private-pay service is available to Dane County seniors (55 or older) and adults with disabilities needing rides to and from medical, dental, or other therapeutic appointments. Service is limited to pickups and drop-offs within Dane County. What are your buses and service like? Our buses can accommodate 6 to 8 passengers and 2 or 3 wheelchairs. We provide shared-ride door-to-door service, helping passengers on and off the bus and into the clinic and home, as needed. Do your drivers receive special training? Our drivers are Care Wisconsin employees who receive specialized and on-going training from our Transportation Services and clinical staff. More than 97% of passengers responded that the driver was “always or usually kind and courteous” in a recent customer satisfaction survey. How much does a ride cost? Passengers are charged $3 per mile and billed by mail at the beginning of each month for the previous month’s rides. Payment is due within 15 calendar days of the statement date. If the bill is not paid, service may be discontinued. Limited funds are available for qualified riders to reduce the cost of rides to $1.50 per mile. Call Transportation Manager Rex Owens at 245-3074 for more information. Passengers can be accompanied by one family member or other caregiver, at no additional cost. How far in advance should rides be scheduled? Rides should be scheduled at least 24 hours before the appointment (48 hours if wheelchair or scooter transport is required). If a Care Wisconsin vehicle is not available at the requested time, our dispatcher/scheduler will schedule the ride with another transportation provider; the rider is responsible for payment of any charges due to that provider. Do rides have to be roundtrip? Rides can be either one-way or roundtrip. When calling to schedule a service, requests can be made for multiple rides. It’s hard to know how long an appointment will last. How will your driver know when to come back for pickup? The driver will give the clinic receptionist a card with our phone number and a request to call when the passenger is ready to be picked up. Our average wait time for pickup after an appointment is 15 minutes. What is your cancellation policy? We require a 24-hour notice for all cancellations. If a scheduled ride is not cancelled 24 hours in advance and our driver attempts to pick up the individual, he or she will be billed for a one-way trip.
