Care Wisconsin CEO, Karen Musser, Announces Retirement Plans
Madison, WI—Care Wisconsin, a non-profit managed care organization headquartered in Dane County, announces President and Chief Executive Officer Karen Musser’s retirement plans. Musser, who has served Care Wisconsin for nearly 20 of its 40-year history, will retire in Q1 2018. Under Musser’s leadership, Care Wisconsin has experienced rapid but controlled growth, from a $9 million service agency to a $430 million managed care organization serving 46 Wisconsin counties. Her tenure at Care Wisconsin is marked by the implementation and expansion in Wisconsin of 4 core programs: Family Care, Partnership, Medicaid SSI, and Medicare Dual Advantage.
“What has been amazing, and important to me, is that we’ve been able to diversify and expand our business lines, grow to 600 employees, and serve more than 10,000 members without compromising our focus or mission, which is to help frail elders and people with disabilities live with dignity and independence.I am proud of the culture of caring that we’ve built at Care Wisconsin,” stated Musser.
Although Karen Musser’s leadership will be missed, Chief Operating Officer and longtime colleague Ken Eimers comments, “Karen’s legacy, in addition to all her program accomplishments, is that she’s developed a strong, accountable leadership team that cares just as deeply about our mission as she does. I know retirement is a difficult decision, but she can do so with complete confidence that Care Wisconsin is in good hands.”
Recruitment for a new Chief Executive Officer is underway. Care Wisconsin’s Board of Directors has retained a national search firm to assist with the recruitment of Musser’s replacement. To ensure a smooth transition next year, Karen Musser will remain available as a strategic advisor to the new CEO and the Care Wisconsin Board.
